Sushi please!

Hi everyone, Mama Karen here.

My parents met and got married while they were in the Japanese American internment camps during WWII.  After they were released, they moved from the Tule Lake camp in Nevada to Southern California where my father began working as a “fish man.”  He would leave early in the morning in his truck and pick up a batch of fresh fish that he would then deliver to local families and businesses.  Because of that, our family was always able to enjoy some of the freshest sashimi and fish that my mom would incorporate into her delicious Japanese dishes.  And that’s how my love affair with sushi first began.

My husband loves sushi too.  We have been known to drive over 45 minutes to get to our favorite sushi restaurant so we could gorge ourselves so silly that I sometimes needed to unbutton my jeans on the drive back home again.  It was just THAT good.

My kids, on the other hand, never really developed a taste for sashimi.  When they were growing up, we never forced them to try it since the less they ate meant more for us (and I still don’t feel guilty about this).  However, they do love other types of sushi especially some of the more common rolls like the Crunchy Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll.  There’s a great Japanese restaurant about 15 minutes away from our new home that has amazing sushi and our family likes to go there together for celebrations and on special occasions.

This adorable sushi print fabric really caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to incorporate it into a Pretty in Gingham apron.

We have a very limited supply of our sushi apron which is backed with an adorable yellow gingham.  Please email us at with questions or to place an order.  We think it’s perfect for all of our fellow sushi lovers!

All this talk about sushi is making me hungry!  I think it’s time to eat!
